It will work.  Are you looking for future expansion or are just going to buy two RX480s?  I'm assuming not the latter otherwise you're better off getting a more powerful single card.  Just thought I'd add that one in since people do that from time to time.

There's nothing stopping you from doing AMD GPU with Intel CPU or Nvidia GPU with AMD CPU.

 

Sorry for assuming, but you're not the first to think that you're locked down to one company.

You don't need to pair an AMD GPU with an AMD CPU.
