Hey, I'm looking to buy a keyboard, I have been looking at the steelseries 6gv2 because it is used by a lot of cs:go pros. The thing that is bothering me is the lack of backlight. I don't need any fancy light show, but I like the look of backlight keys. I'm willing to pay up around 140 $.

the pros might just use Steelseries 6GV2 because they might be sponsored by Steelseries. Honestly just pay attention to the switch and brand quality. I have Rosewill keyboard and its doing just fine.

I'm not really sure because I have no experience with mechanical keyboards.

most people would recommend browns to first time buyers.

That keyboard uses Cherry MX Black keyswitches, which are quite heavy keyswitches and they are linear, meaning they have no click or feel to them.

Have you actually tried the keyboard or read anything about keyswitches or just heard about it from the pro scene?

Black keyswitches are not very common. The most common ones are Browns and Reds, which are both less heavy. Red have no click or extra feel too, Browns have a non-audible click and feel halfway through pressing the key.

Maybe you could try out the different keyswitches in a store sometime. You can ask an employee there if they have a keyswitch tester too.

I recently got a Coolermaster Masterkeys Pro S RGB with Brown switches and love it. It doesn't have a numpad though, but I never used that anyways.

The Corsair K70, Corsair Strafe and CM Storm Quickfire keyboard are pretty good too. Some even have RGB lighting, which is pretty cool.

After reading that, I believe either cherry mx red or black switches are what I need. I might have to test them in store before deciding which one i prefer, thank you.

If you are interested you can purchase a switch tester, like this one https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1620

I have that one and it's pretty good. Just make sure you select the Master kit, which comes with even more switches (it's listed in the description). or if you're inclined you can just select the Additional Cherry kit which comes with lesser known (and rarer) Cherry switches, such as the ones in the image. Sadly this tester does not have Topre or Alps switches you can test, and not many testers have them due to how they're made. Nor do they have manufacturer-exclusive switches, such as Romer-G or Razer/Kailh greens.

Another thing a switch tester cannot do is simulate the experience of trying a full keyboard with a certain switch (or switches).
