1070 vs 1060 (6gb) - Which one is best suited for my system?

JohnCarmichael

So I'm looking to get a new video card for my system. I've been slowly adding to my PC and now I'm ready to upgrade my GPU from a 2gb 770. My specs are:

i5 3550k @ 3700

16 gb ddr3 @1600

3x240 SSD kingstone v300/ssdnow

Corsair CS650M PS

ASUS P8H77-V LE

29 inch ultrawide IPS LG monitor @ 60hz (2560x1080)

Giving these specs and this monitor, would a 1070@8gb be an overkill? The 1060 6 gb is quite cheaper where I live, 30% cheaper or so.

I'm not sure which one to get... I just want to play on high settings 2560x1080, constant 60 fps. (The Witcher, BF1, GTAV, etc.)

Any suggestions?

If you want to run ultra settings 60 fps then I would suggest the 1070. If you are fine with medium to high (or lower aa and other consuming things) then maybe a 1060 is okay.

You should check out some gaming benchmarks to help inform you of the right decision. There is nothing quite like real world performance.
