Sdd isn't reading during OS installation (HELP)

lazyboy18

Hey everyone,

MOBO: MSI Z170-A Pro

SSD: samsung 850 evo 250gb

Windows: 7

Trying do a fresh install on the brand new ssd but when I get to the installation process its not reading the SSD. I already tried doing the "diskpart" stuff but that didn't work. I'm installing windows 7 through a USB.

My first guess is your Windows install ISO is borked, because Windows 7 should have SATA drivers already and there's nothing special about an SSD that needs extra drivers. As a sanity check, you can try getting the Windows 10 ISO and going into that install environment to see if it sees the SSD. If it does, I recommend redoing the Windows 7 install media.

You could try to turn on the IDE mode for the ssd in your BIOS

You shouldn't do this with a SSD, it will DRASTICALLY limit the performance of the disk.  Not only that, often times it will harm the disk and not allow TRIM.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

Yeah thats right but the right sata drivers are often missing and with IDE mode u can install windows and after that u can download and install the sata drivers and then go back to the BIOS and switch ´to sata mode

You can just... you know... Get the sata drivers from the beginning.  Just like I suggest in my guide I directed OP to.

I don't know that depends on the Mainboard u have. But Windows sometimes need a registry change when you change the sata mode just keep that in mind and if you don' wanna do that follow @JefferyD90 's  guide

How would I install the sata drivers? In your guide you did it after WIndows detected your hard drive

The button is still there.  Just because mine is "auto detected" doesn't mean it is any different.  (I never use the generic driver anyways, always use the official provided driver)
