Best fps?

I've been playing this game titles Rust. Its a survival game, you might know of it, and recently my friend bought a new computer that outperforms mine. It's frustrating to me why his gets better frames, considering I have a RX 480, he has a gtx 1060, and I also have an i5 4460, while he has an i5 6600. We both have 8 gigs of ram, and I don't know why he has better frames. The settings are equal, and I can't find a difference between main components that would alter the fps. Any tips?

The i5 6500 would be bit better than i5 4460. That could be the issue

Well, not only does he have a better processor he also has a better video card...  Quite literally why would you think you'd get equal FPS?

Also the two cards favor differently based on the game.  RX 480 would favor better in some DX12, Vulkan or anything optimized for asynchronous compute.

I don't remember which member it was, but they had a similar issue and it seemed that Rust doesn't do as well on AMD hardware.

He have a better CPU although AFAIK the difference is very slim around 5-7% if im not mistaken.

1060 and 480 is kinda on same playing field nowadays, since the driver is much better now rather than before, sooo it depends on the game now..

Ah, yes, you're playing Rust and are getting lower FPS than your friend. Apart from the hardware differences between your systems, Rust is incredibly optimised on anyone's system, and thus has weird oddities on certain hardware configurations. One of my brother's friends recently upgraded from a GTX 750 Ti to a GTX 1060 6GB edition, and although he did see a framerate increase, it was only about 7-12 FPS better.

 

Other games run miles faster now that he has the GTX 1060 - we're talking 30-60 FPS increases in Source games and other titles, but Rust seems to choke when rendering certain textures no matter what GPU you have.
