Is my router bottlenecking my connection speed?

Go to solution Solved by Glenwing,

The specs page of your router says it all...

"Wired LAN Interface: Speed and Flow Control 10/100 Mb/s, Auto-Sensing, Auto MDIX Number of LAN Ports 4 x RJ-45 Number of WAN Ports 1 x RJ-45"

The wired ports only do 10/100 on that router.  Look for one with Gigabit ports.

Hi.

I recently upgraded my conection speed from 100Mbps to 250Mbps but using speedtest.net I only get around 80Mbps same as before upgrade.

My setup.

Modem---> Router ( Buffalo AirStation N300 http://bit.ly/Hwy7uX )---> PC ( Atheros GbE LAN chip (10/100/1000 Mbit) )

But when I connect straight to modem then I get full 250Mbps.

So is my router a bottleneck if yes then which router will be capable driving 250Mbps. I don't have NAS or somthing like that.

That's because wirless sucks...

My Pc: Cpu: I7 4790k @ 4,8 Ghz @1,25 volts, Motherboard: Maximus VII Formula, Graphicscard: 2x Titan X @1,4 at stock voltage (soon to be replaced), Ram: 32 gb Corsair Dominator Platinum 2133 Cl 9, SSD: 2x 850 Pro 1 Tb in Raid 0, 2x Samsung 840 Evo 1 tb raid 1,, PSU: Corsair HXi Series 1000W 80+ Platinum, Case: H440. Soon to be watercooled again, maybe, probably, the Titans are too loud.

Is pretty hard for a router to be a bottleneck, assuming its newer then like 2005

Not true. A lot of routers really do suck in this department. I have a router from around 2010 that I got for free after a friend finally upgraded his that wont put more than 8 mbps through the allegedly 100/1000 ports. My Apple AirPort Extreme that I use daily however is dealing with my 100/100 mbps connection just fine.

Fine. Any half decent router that wasn't $2.49 on Black Friday.
