my friend is selling his i7 950 with sabartooth x58 motherboard for 120$ but it has small lil problem 3 ram slots are not working.Should i buy it?

Do not ... I repeat, do not buy that!

The memory is handled by the mobo in that CPU gen. That's a big problem then.

depending on the intended workload, 8GB of RAM might be enough

If 3 have died then it's just a matter of time.

Nobody knows. Especially OP doesn't. I suspect an aggressive overclock on the memory. Maybe basecloc overclocking which demaged the whole board.
