I'm using MSI Afterburner and i want to overclock my gtx 1080 ftw, i'm supposed to set the power limit to max before i start boosting my core clock?

And idk, i could use any type of advice, i'm not really used to overclocking my GPUs.

The FTW loves power. Max power and temp. Work from +20MHz steps for core. +50MHz steps for memory. Back down with -10MHz or -20MHz steps depending on how hardcore you want to go. Nice and easy.

Ideally use an EVGA card with EVGA software. Fancy lighting control and volt options iirc.

I kinda went directly to 100hz for the core clock. It worked, so i went to 115, also worked. If i go to 130 Heaven crashes, so i think i'm settled with core clock. I'll try it with the Mem clock now.

Did i screw up adding 100mhz directly instead of going step by step?

I reached +125mhz core clock and +500mhz mem clock. Comfortable temps and it ran stable during heaven and stress test on 3Dmark. Is that a good overclock?

100MHz is fine. Forgot that it was Pascal.

Sounds Good. What's the actual boost and memory clock though. can't really figure out clock from offsets.

Also submit here for e-peen

Heaven says it's 2138 but that's not true, using OSD from afterburner it stays at 2063mhz, but i've seen it quickly boost up to 2088 in some specific occasions. But yeah, it normally sits at 2063mhz. Memory clock stays at 5505 Mhz.

And i'll consider submitting my score after getting and overclocking my new CPU in a few months, thanks though.

(I also forgot to mention, i didn't mess with the voltage, i overclocked as high as i could without touching it)

If it's kept nice and cool it'll hold 2088MHz maybe even 2100+. Colder it gets, the faster it can go.

I tried going to +130mhz, but heaven just crashed. It didn't even let the card get hot. I think i'll just leave it like this.

Also, does overclocking makes the card run hotter at idle? My fan curve makes the fans stop when under 50c, and the card idles around 40-41, is that ok?

use afterburner or gpu-z to check GPU clocks, and that OC looks good. My card gets around 2050mhz (jumps around 2075-2038). and your temps are fine at idle.

BTW if you decide to let the voltage use max (pascal cards the voltage slider is different, it is a percentage of voltage you want to use, 100% is 1.095v) does you card cause blue screen crashing?

Only thing that has a massive effect on temps is volts. increasing clocks wouldn't make it run hotter at idle since it should be using idle clocks.

40C ish is pretty good for idle especially on 0 fan mode. Generally all that matters is load temp.

I'm sorry but i wouldn't know. I have no interest in increasing the voltage, I've heard it reduces the lifetime of the card and it's just too much trouble for such a small increase in FPS.
