WIndows 10 didn'y ask activation key.

Hello!

 

Me and my friend went to buy an ssd for my friend, and when we installed a copy of windows 10 it didn't ask for activation key (note that he alreday had windows 10 on his hdd and now we just installed new windows 10 to his new ssd). Why it didn't ask for the activation key? We checked and it says that it's already activated. We used windows 10 installion tool what I had on my usb stick and i have used it 1 time before this. Is that the reason why it didn't ask for the key? or did my friend have retail version of windows?

Was it installed on a pre-built computer?
