I don't have an 8 pin either. It's just the main 24 pin connector, and a few 4 pin molex. Will an adapter work? Because if not I need to get a new PSU

if your psu doesnt have a 4 or 8 pin, you need to throw it out the window like.. yesterday..

I'd not risk it.  Older power supplys may work but newer ones are designed to work with contemporary processors.  More engineering is put into these supplys to make them compatable and stable under loads that the unit will generally see.

Laws only govern the honest.

erm

All ATX (pretty sure) PSUs are armed with at least the following things:

1x 20(+4)P Mainboard power header

1-2x 4(+4)P 12V EPS header

1-x Peripheral headers.

You are after the EPS header.

EDIT:

If your PSU actually is what you say, I recommend you check if the 12V rail has enough capacity before you even think about hooking anything up to it (somewhere around 10A+ on the 12V rail, considering no GPU and such)

Armed with Google, I can take on the world*

*:Hopefully

If the PSU doesn't have 4 or 8 pin plugs, would suspect a very old or very CHEAP PSU.

Are you also saying it  doesn't have plugs for PCIe to go to a GPU??  Maybe if you say what the brand and model of the PSU is, it would help let folks know what you got

Most likely time for a new modern PSU

Just to chime in, I believe the 4/8 pin connector is part of the ATX standard, so you either have a modified or incorrect PSU (or is this a modular PSU?).  In either case I wouldn't use it, but I'm curious if you could tell us the model.

The suggestions above for a PSU are good.

ATX is one of those standards that has somewhat evolved over time.  Originally developed in '95 back when processors didn't need their own power supply from the psu.
