HTC Vive cables and a rug?

Is it a bad idea to hide cables under a rug? If it is a bad idea, should I put Gaffer tape on the cables then put the rug on top of everything? The cables are 2 50 FT HDMI Cables and one HDMI Cables.

Depending on the thickness of the rug, the cables are going to take a beating if you are going to be walking on it. Gaffa would help a bit probably
