Someone told me to go for either the lg wh14ns40 or 16ns40 and no one has been able to give me a clear answer on this or help me find the right one.

I am highly confused with this as if I go to amazon I see that second drive I posted in the pictures saying it is either a wh14ns40 or a 16ns40 but how can they both be the same drive when they look different when some people say one is a bad one and all that and one guy on tomshardware said that the second one was a uh12ns30 but I see pics on pcpartpicker and amazon under a wh14ns40 that looks just like it so can anyone help me find the right one?

Had someone on here help me earlier today but trying go find out what one is the one I need to get because apparently one won't support windows 10 or something

And please stay on topic as people go and say "do you really need one" or yes lg is a good brand or something.

I am just trying to figure out of those why they are look different butbyet labeled the same model and if so which one is the newest and wby some people say metallic looking one is the "real" one

I think he just wants a straight answer, maybe asked before but got a garbled response. Anyway, we should better get on topic.

Yes I have been getting weird answers because of the fact that lg is weird how they have two different products with the same model name and it is confusing.

Either that or one is a older version but I can't figure out which one because the 14ns40 has two different looks to one looks nice the other looks plain if you look and can't find out which one is newer/older

I already gave you my answer. This sort of thing really doesn't matter. Looks are personal preference. The one I mentioned above is both on sale, and better than the other option you proposed.

I don't understand your question.

If you look at the links you can see that the wh14ns40 has a different products with the name of wh14ns40 and reviewers in amazon saying they didn't get what they ordered and a that.

even though there are ones that look like both but labels wh14ns40 it is the Ame thing with the wh16ns40

Revisions like this are common in technology.

Several products may come out using the same shell with varying components is not unheard of. I would recommend getting either as they are both good drives, though I'm using the WH16NS40 since it's newer.

Because if you look at the 16ns40 on new egg or pcpartpicker and find the pics it will have two different shells saying they are 16ns40 butbat this moment I looks like it doesn't matter what shell

They have different internals allowing the 16x to run/spin a bit faster in conjunction with the laser and that's about the only difference. These revisions are common in technology. They both support M-Disc, Blu-ray, DVD/CD. There is only one difference between the two. The only major difference is the writing speed at 16x vs 14x.

I'm talking about both versions of the 16ns40, there are two versions of it with different plates like this but both are listed as the wh16ns40

The one that I'm using is the one on the bottom (referencing the tower in your photo), but two explanations could be scam or regional difference.

Even in lg's website it has the top one so cold be that the other one the top one is a newermodel with a different faceplate with the same hardware?  Or they have a faceplate with the retail box and whatnot and do something different for OEM?

Possibly could be a reference thing where sit shows a stock image of a drive saying this is what the drive looks like as if you are buying retail and gives you the newest version or the one you picked so maybe a marketing thing?

Anything is possible. OEM's usually create faceplates for themselves as can be seen in laptops and major pre-builders like Dell and HP.
