In the past the trend has usually been that one ram standard (DDR2, DDR3, and the upcoming DDR4) approaches the end of its lifecycle and starts to go up in price. Then a new standard comes out and is more expensive at first and eventually drops enough that it is more affordable than the previous. I saw it happen to both DDR and DDR2, and it looks to me like it is happening again to DDR3.

If that is the case you will probably have to either suck up the cost or wait until you can build a system with DDR4.

My rig: 2600k(4.2 GHz) w/ Cooler Master hyper 212+, Gigabyte Z68-UD3H-B3, Powercolor 7870 xt(1100/1500) w/AIO mod,

8GB DDR3 1600, 120GB Kingston HyperX 3K SSD, 1TB Seagate, Antec earthwatts 430, NZXT H2

Guys, RAM got more expensive recently because of the fire at a Hynix factory. It'll take a while for prices to come back down, but it isn't because DDR3 is going out. DDR4 isn't coming for a while.
