Hello everyone, ive decided to build my first PC after years gaming on laptop.
Down below is a first sketch on what im going for please give your opinion.
Thank you.

1. Budget & Location

No budget, Canada

2. Aim

System is going to be used for gaming at home and away while working.

3. Monitors

3440x1440p 100hz Gsync or lower on travel

4. Peripherals

Already have win7 might buy win10
Already own the samsung 840 evo 500gb

5. Why are you upgrading?

Ive been running games on gaming laptop since '09 and ive grown sick of it. These mini ITX build seems like the best go to for someone on the move like me because of work.

EDIT: Also im unsure if i should get a 550w psu to OC in this case? Im concerned about heat management.

You might need a 550w psu once you start overclocking the cpu and gpu.

Getting an Intel K processor may not be worth while because they're 91W and most low profile coolers are rated for up to 95W. This means you can't overclock the processor.

I think one of Noctua's heatsink/fans can go up to 120W, but then you'll be making it a chore to work on the motherboard because the thing covers practically the entire motherboard.

EDIT: I fixed my wording. The highest a low profile cooler usually goes to is 95W. A lot are really meant for 65W TDP processors.

Ive went for the FE card so i dont blow hair into the system and also i have it for 549.99$

I have an EVGA ACX 3.0 card in my Silverstone FTZ-01, which uses a similar layout as the Node 202. Though in my case (...) I do have fans blowing against he card and the case is well ventilated. I'm not sure how well the Node 202 would fare.

Yes

Ive been thinking of either try to find a 550w psu i could fit in there for OC or just drop the K cpu

As far as I know, the Noctua NHL12 is the only "low profile" cooler capable of handling more than 95W TDP. However, it won't fit in your case.

And as I mentioned before, the thing makes working on the motherboard a pain in the butt because 1. it's low profile and 2. it covers most of the parts you'd want to work on.

500Gb is not going to hold too many games at all you might want to step up to a 1Tb.

Depending on what "work" you do and with "no budget", you can get external gpus for some laptops like some razor models, and some alienware ones so you can have a gtx 1080 in the enclosure at home, and just detach the laptop and go.

Even though mitx is small it is still a bit of a pain to move around.

 •E5-2670 @2.7GHz • Intel DX79SI • EVGA 970 SSC• GSkill Sniper 8Gb ddr3 • Corsair Spec 02 • Corsair RM750 • HyperX 120Gb SSD • Hitachi 2Tb HDD •

Ill add another drive eventually as required, its just to get it started.

Also my alienware 17 r1 doesnt support external GPU enclosure except if i diy eGPU which seems like too much hassle.

Looks like the 304 is my favorite high profile mini itx case. Ill probably go with it if i decide to go for a K/550w/OC build.

6700k 1080 OC seems a little overkill but would it hurt down the line say in 2years to be able to OC?

Oh wait, I forgot.

Corsair has a low profile AIO water cooler called the H7. It might work.

EDIT: I forgot the name, that's not it XP

EDIT 2: Here it is, It's the H5 SF http://www.corsair.com/en-us/hydro-series-h5-sf-low-profile-liquid-cpu-cooler

Hmmm.

  • I wouldn't go with that combo. You can get the Node 202 without the Integra PSU, and get a higher watt one. There's quite a few available.
  • The case is pretty big. There are better options for traveling cases.

If he wants to get the most out of that monitor, the 1080 is the way to go.

I'd go i7 if you plan on keeping the computer for a while. There have been pretty decent gains with the i7 over the i5 in some DX12 tests. The Node 202 is an HTPC case, and isn't really designed to be OC'd in. There are loads of other cases that would fit the bill, what draws you to this one?

The design and lowprofile of the node 202 which would help me stuff it in a paded pellican case was what attracted me to the node 202. Im open to other case anyday!

I inserted the integra PSU just because i was lazy. Id probably look for another one.
