If you had to deal with a piece of software and it offered a desktop app and a web app, which would you choose?

Thanks :).

Since you seem to aim for storefronts, I have to say: Web app.

No update nonsense, fast and convinient access (no install required). It's plattform agnostic, which is always nice.

Only reason for a desktop is to access local ressources (efficiently). This includes, of course, offline use. Don't expect everyone to be connected all the times. Too many dev's ignore the fact, that not all their users have a perfect connection all the time.

On the other hand... There isn't much use in a offline copy of a store...

Poll is broken. "What do you like about desktop apps which act as storefronts? *" Due to the asterix, I have to pick at least one thing, and there is nothing I like about it...

I should fix that.

EDIT: Fixed

The biggest thing I'd like to see is that I don't have to create an account for every single piece of software I buy or test.

But steam is a webapp and has the flaws of a web browser. What's worse is you cannot switch the browser it uses if you don't like it. I remember when steam first came out on single core computers it was a real pig in performance and was not popular. A good store is the humble bundle. Gives you legit keys to games and is somewhat transparent about how much goes to the developer
