Use other computer without internet

I like working on my desktop, but it doesn't have a network card (That's not the issue I am concerned about. I have one at home.)

I want to work on my desktop but have my laptop do all the work. (The school I am transferring to requires a specific anti-virus and I don't want to put it on my desktop)

I wanted to know how I could connect my desktop to my laptop and use my laptop when on my desktop.
I was wondering if I could use something like team-viewer to use my laptop through my desktop. I use google docs a lot, but don't like typing on my laptop. So I was wondering how I could use my desktop to control my laptop.

I had the consideration of using my laptop as a Wi-fi adapter, (I was having trouble with that, and came to the realization that the school may still end up blocking my connection because I would still be using my desktop.)

My laptop has windows 8 or windows 8.1 (I can't tell the difference, and I doubt it makes one.) and my desktop has windows 10 home. Both in 64-bit.

I have my reasons as to why I don't wish to install this anti-virus,(Sophos blocks itself, and then I get a virus.) but I also believe that it can help with other in home needs of using clients without internet access between the 2 systems.

Well you're not going to get very far without a NIC...

My native language is C++

My desktop motherboard has a built in Ethernet port.

LIAR lol jk. Yeah ethernet is considered a NIC. You can install splashtop streamer/desktop on both computers, and even remote in through the internet without having to configure anything.

nah, you can bridge two network connections. Just did it myself yesterday

chrome remote desktop, but it's a little laggy

which antivirus and what happens if you don't have one?

Is this the Chrome Remote Desktop?:

Will it need an internet connection to run? I couldn't find a how-to guide.

As for anti-virus I stated it above. The school requires Sophos, and the network makes you install a network check program to see that you have Sophos. If you don't have it, the network won't let you connect, or it will be atrocious, and you'll potentially get IP blocked. I don't know enough about setting up proxy servers or masking my IP, and I don't wanna get kicked out... So.... yeah.... I can also use the guest network, but they have begun ip blocking people, and severely limiting the bandwidth because all the students were using it cuz it was faster than the actual network, and didn't require downloading a million clunky open software that didn't work, or worked very inefficiently.

in that case, you could probably bridge your laptop's wifi to its ethernet port, and then connect that ethernet port to the desktop (should work)

How can I do that? I couldn't figure out how to do that.

I tried setting up a VPN (Virtual Private Network (I'm positive you know what that is, I'm just noting it for other potential readers)) but it needed a proxy server, and I couldn't figure out how to set that up, not to mention my internet cut out on my laptop because DHCP settings changed for some reason (probably in the bridge connection I setup?)

Looking it over, it appears to be what I am looking for, unfortunately Spashtop doesn't have a guide on their site for setup, so I'll have to seek guides elsewhere. Do you know of any well written guides?

Use Windows's default troubleshooter, it usually fixes configuration problems

lol, that's the only reason I was able to make this post haha.

What would I need to do to achieve the goal of using my laptop through my desktop? If you have any solutions for me.

so you either remote into it (splashtop works for that) or you still use your desktop, BUT you use your laptop's internet connection. Here's how:

Connect your laptop and desktop with an ethernet cable. Then, on your laptop, right click on the wifi symbol on the taskbar, open Network and Sharing Center, hit change adapter settings, go into properties for both your ethernet and wifi adapters, disable ICS in Sharing, then go back, highlight 'em both together, right click and bridge connections.

Run Windows troubleshooter on the desktop and it should configure the right IP settings for you, wait a little for the settings to get fixed and voila. Pretty sure that's how I did it

Wow thanks! I didn't have to use the troubleshooter, it automatically sorted itself out.

Thank you very much in using my laptop's wifi on my desktop.

How about remote use? Is there anyway to utilize this feature for remote use? Or do you know how to configure any of these software to remote desktop?

huh?

There is no software involved. A remote desktop would work just as it normally does. But why do you need it?

I was considering it incase my school network would identify the desktop not having the Anti-virus software.

I suppose I wouldn't need it in a case of my desktop not being detectable by the school network or... something of the sort I don't understand.

I assume you've tried it and it works?

It works on this network. I am not at the school that would block my connection yet.

It may work just fine and I suppose I can wait to see if it even is a problem when I get to the school.
