Building a PC for multi camera streaming

GM Rod

Yo!

So, I've been asked to put together a PC for live streaming.

It needs to have multiple capture cards for multiple cameras, at least 4.

It'd be nice to have expandability.

Size and noise are not big concerns because the PC will sit outside of the filming area.

I've only built gaming PCs before so I'm expecting this to be quite different, like I probably don't need a top tier graphics card because there's no gaming going on in this machine.

But it still needs to display 4k footage on at least two monitors.

It'll also be doing offline 4k video rendering...hmm so maybe I do need a Titan or something.

Also the studio will have two internet connections from different providers, just in case one fails, so we can switch to the other and keep the stream going.

Any thoughts on how to do this automatically?

I'd probably need one router for each connection and then both hooked up to a switch?

Thoughts? Tips?

This is a bit extreme but do-able.

What is your budget for this project though?

And with video editing, as the footage is pre-recorded, the GPU required to procees 4K video is much less than to fully render it from scratch

Wait, so it will have a bunch of capture cards with cameras hooked up to it? What sort of capture card are you talking about. You will need a motherboard that has enough slots for all those cards.

Ok so

The cameras will all be DSLRs so I need all capture cards to have HDMI.

And yeah I started with the motherboard because of the number of slots.

Lemme take a look at this build you posted.

I built a reasonable priced build.

Buy as many of the capture cards as you need, but only a maximum of 4 will work

Why two RAM sticks? Wouldn't it be better to do quad channel on an X99+6800K?

What is your budget?

So, around $2000 USD would be decent.

Yes.

$2000 US for 4x 4K HDMI capture cards and a 4K powerful machine... I don't think you can do all that with that budget.

Yeah it's tight isn't it. My business partner is the one with the $$$. I could talk him into going a little higher if it's justified.

I'm finishing a build here that I think will do it and then you guys can chime in?

4K HDMI capture cards alone go for like $250-$500 a piece. You still have to add a powerful graphics card, some storage, PSU, and CPU.

Yeah I know.
Let's see...

I can't seem to find capture cards in pcpartpicker. Where would they be listed?

I don't think pcpartpicker has a capture card section.

Do the capture cards need to be able to capture 4K?

Well. Strictly, right now, no because most streaming services don't support it and most people don't even have the bandwidth available for their connection to be able to do it.

I'm just trying to avoid having to upgrade too soon. But, yeah the straight answer is no, they don't.

Well possibly something like the Intensity Pro 4K would work.

So I can't find the power draw specs for that card... any guesses?
I mean I obviously need to know that before I can pick a PSU...
