Help selecting a violin bow

None of those, get a real one, not from amazon. Go to a local music store, try some out. Look on craigslist for nice ones used.

these are from reputable brands. just because its bought from amazon doesnt make it bad especially since you can buy them in music stores. and the reason why im not buying from a music store is that you get more choice buying online

Well try them out at stores. And I would look at wood ones. Especially used.

i heard carbon fiber bows are better on the cheap price range

im buying this for a friend i am not a violinist so i have no idea what to look for sound or characteristic wise

Well its not that simple with things to look for. Ideally, you need a violinist.

but a good violin bow is a good violin bow right? you dont need a violinist to be there physically to know that.

what is good for one person may be unusable for another. Its one of those things where you just have to feel and use it to make a good choice. Its not like electronics where one thing is superior to another simply based on specs.

well she has a cheap fiberglass bow so pretty much any bow is better than what she has

Id say find one that is made with genuine wood and horse hair. Past that much of it is very subjective.

what i heard is on the cheaper scale carbon is better than wood. also pretty much any bow even the cheapest ones are made of horse hair

yes but there are general guidelines like fiber glass bows are terrible and a 50 dollar carbon bow is probably worse than a 300 dollar carbon bow

Yea but with bows in a single price range it just comes down to prefrence

I cant really comment on composite bows as i have always used wood. Also, be careful with the cheaper ones as even though they may advertise as horse hair, most of the strands can end up being cheap nylon fibers.

sure if they are made by shady brands but i heard those brands are reputable

 im probably going to get this one and found a review for it. im just checking there isnt any glaring problems with the bow right? and i guess i can return it if she doesnt like it lol
