So i just a ASUS Z170 motherboard  open box for 100$ from newegg.... it sells for 150$  open box was 50$ off seemed like a good deal. a  risk i wanted to take

But what i would like to ask is.....  It said 30 per customer... most open box boards are 10 to 15$ off but this one was 50$ off with 30 per customer.

So what makes newegg have so many open boxes of these board?

i got the board in the mail today... It did not come in the original Box did not come with the Q connector driver cd and the I/O Shield:(

So i am wonder where did this motherboard come from maybe a return, a reviewer board, or a show case board?

Very interesting to me.

If it came in a plain white box, it's most likely a DOA board that they sent back to Asus to get RMA'd so it's really a refurb. When I get those, I usually complain to Newegg since the box says recertified parts and say this is a refurb and not an open box. They've given me additional discounts before for that. If it's in original box and not really missing anything, it's typically just a customer return and they changed their mind after opening the box.

Unrelated but I got an open box mobo from microcenter once. $50 off a $180 + a $30 discount for combining cpu and mobo. The board works great and came with everything. I pulled it out of the box and looked in front of the employee has he watched me check the pins and all, there was a little bit of thermal paste on the cpu latch. Odd, but everything worked great (that I've been able to test!)

I do the same thing. I buy open box all the time and ALMOST never have any problems. Go for it!
