Hey everyone,

So I built a new workstation. Why a workstation and not consumer-grade? Because I am a developer by trade and I cannot afford any downtime.

Motherboard: Supermicro X11SAE-M 1151

CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1275 v5 3.6 GHz 4 core, 8 thread

CPU Cooler: Supermicro SNK-P0046A4

RAM: 32 GB Crucial ECC 2133 MHz 2 x 16 GB DIMMs

GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1080 FE

Storage: 2x Intel 540s 480 GB RAID 1 (redundancy plus double read performance)

Case: Corsair 350D

PSU: Corsair RM550X

I have been running the system 24/7 for a week now and my only complaint is the Corsair 350D does not come with a top cover where you would normally have a large radiator so I had to order one separately from overseas (I live in New Zealand).

The CPU cooler has exceeded my expectations. It looks like a stock Intel cooler but it's 2 to 3x larger and has a massive copper-base. The CPU temperatures did not exceed 60 degrees centigrade when stress testing the system at 100% utilization. The cooler is reasonably quiet too.

Pics to come soon :)

Looks good! The onty thing I would have changed is RAID 1 540s to a pair of SSDs that perform better on RAID, especially since a single NVMe drive that's good will outperform them with better performance consistency. You could say RAID is like Crossfire for SSDs, but in this case lower-end SSDs are worse at doing it.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here
