I have a lga 771 server motherboard with 2 cpu sockets. It also has a 24 pin connector and a 20 pin connector on the board. Do I need to have both of these plugged in to the psu? My evga 650 g2 supernova only has a 24 pin connector. I know I can use a 24 pin for a 20 pin, but I have found no one talking about a motherboard with both types of connectors.

Is it an oem dell board?

Yes you need them plugged in.

If so you need the proprietary psu to go with it, the 20, and 24 pin are NOT ATX form factor, and most likely have a different pinout, running an atx psu on it may kill the board without an adapter giving the board the correct voltages wherever then need to go.

If a CPU is occupying both of the sockets, yes. The 20-pin is likely the 24-pin minus the extra 4-pin.

You can try your hand at a splitter, though I would recommend getting a server PSU from AthenaTech, etc.
