Overclocking the fx-6300

I also have a 6300. I run mine at the stock 3.5Ghz because my mobo does not overclock cpu's when I thought it did. But anyways 4.1 is a descent speed for the 6300 because its stock speed is 3.5. I would keep it at 4.1 for awhile and see if its meeting up to your standards. If its not play with some more settings and get it to where you like it.

I have mine at 4.4ghz I think with a 212 evo

mine was at 4.8 ghz at i think 1.4 V but i was running a aio cooler
if you have decent cooling you can get very high overclocks on it, only reason i wasn't running it at 5.0ghz was because the vrm would overheat and it then throttles my cpu so i tuned it down to 4.8.

 

Are you using stock cooler or aftermarket? and are you increasing the voltage?

because 4.1 is the default boost clock so you are not getting much better performance.

 

ps. i almost forgot, did you turn off amd turbo core? because that,messes with your oc

I have a 212 evo and the temperatures were last time I checked in the 40's to 50's with stock voltage. Also I have a 990fx Gigabyte Gaming mobo.

That's good then. My non-validated rule of thumb is hitting the stock boost speed on all cores with stock voltages, which is what you did. You can try small increments in voltage and see if you can achieve higher clocks. That motherboard should handle it fine, so it's just a matter of keeping an eye on CPU temps. @Strike105X's reference point is good. I'd say you could do ~62C package temps, <70C socket temps (what the motherboard reports as CPU temp) as long as it only happens with Prime95.
