i think my cpu is dead.

glunday

So i need a little help here, i have been working on this for a few days. my computer suddenly stopped working while turned on. naturally i thought it was the PSU but that could turn on on its own and using another PSU didn't fix it. after breadboarding it and only plugging in the bear essentials it still wouldn't work. now i bought a cheap 50$ motherboard off amazon thinking its probably my mobo and the cheaper part to test  and ill warranty it if its the problem. but this mobo does the same thing, im unsure if my CPU is dead or im extremely unlucky and got a bad mobo to test with. here's whats happening

1-plug everything in to mobo and everything's fine (main mobo is asus z170s and has indicator lights power light lights up.)

2-hit power switch and nothing, no lights, no fans, no beeps, just nothing at all.

i've never had a cpu fail like this so honestly im not sure if its the problem or not. whats yalls take?

its a 6700k btw.

Maybe its BIOS

well i reset cmos and hit my change bios switch, and that wouldn't explain other mobo doing the same thing unless that one was doa.

any visuals on the mobo's?

do you mean pictures or something coming up on screen. because it doesn't do anything for either mobo literally nothing moves, turns on, or changes.

i just rechecked it and there's nothing on the cpu or mobo. and with the mobo being white any discoloration and or damage should be pretty apparent.

Sounds like a dead cpu to me then,

if you have tried 2 diffrent motherboards allready.

I´m not sure what the hell is going on with Asus lately.

But its not the first time i read about a dead cpu with one of their motherboards.

But most complaints was with X99 boards.

Its pretty strange to me, i first thought that it were just some incidents.

But lately i do start to see some kind of a pattern.

Not sure whats up, but looks like they have some issues with their bios or what not.

They had similar issues on the X99 platform back in the day.

Which was something with a bad bios causing high voltage spikes or what not, cant remember exactly.

i was running a 15% "easy OC tuner" motherboard UEFI overclock so if it is dead that would be my guess why. i just wish i had a way to be sure other than ordering another cpu/warranty through intel

If you tested a diffrent board, and it doesnt work.

Then you can be 99% sure that the chip is dead.

You should contact Asus about it.

But i think that i will start recommending Asrock boards a bit more often.

because they just work!.

the problem is it was a cheap 50$ board and knowing my luck it would be a DOA board. although im pretty sure its the CPU

Yeah well intel has an excellent rma service so that shouldnt be that much of an issue.

You could of course go for safe and buy a cheap Skylake pentium G or so,

for just testing.

But i would just rma the cpu to intel, and the board to Asus.

At OCN this topic is also discussed a couple of times allready.

So Asus should be aware.

But i have not read about Z170 boards yet.

Most of the complaints are with X99.

i already have an rma # with asus but apparently they dont have any of my motherboard and could be 3 weeks to a month to get one back to me. but in the off chance they will get me a cpu sooner since their really good about customer service im on with amacon live chat right now. if not i'll rma with intel
