SLI or Upgrade

Looking for input on whether to add a second gpu or upgrade to a better one.

Currently I have a G1 Gaming GTX 970 from gigabyte and its been phenomenal so far, but I recently got a 1080p monitor so I'm considering either adding a second one or selling it and getting a GTX 1070.  So I'm now asking you, should I get a second 970, sell it and get a 1070, or keep saving and get a 980ti (even though I can't afford it)? and i wonder my 550W 80+ gold can support SLI gpu ?

Go with the 1070, it is a solid card that it only 20% less powerfull than the 1080. Sli is often badly optimised or not offered at all even in AAA games. Not to mention the lower tdp.

Probably 1070, which only slightly underperforms 970 SLI.

If it's cheap AND the games you play are supported and scale well, sli. If not sell the 970 and go with a 1070.

My vote is on 1070 with everyone else so far. Single faster card is always going to have better support in games than sli.

I'd get a 1070. If you want a 980 Ti, I wouldn't buy new...I'd try used. Actually if you don't mind used, you might try hunting for used 1070s...I got a used one for $340ish, the MSI Gaming X one.

 

I also previously bought a used 980 Ti, and it works just fine, though I torture mine for CUDA rendering / don't game much. I got it used in the summer for $350 (They're lower now) because the new 1070s / 1060 6GBs were out of stock at the time and there was a massive gap between a $450ish 1070 vs a $350ish 980 Ti. Now it's a lot closer since the 1070s have come back into stock.
