1070 FTW or SC?

So my 580 decided to sh*t the bed finally because I took it out and put it back in >.>

Now I'm looking to get an EVGA GTX 1070, but which one?

 

SC is $637 CAD, gets here Thursday or Friday.

FTW is $706 with guaranteed delivery on Wednesday and it has pretty colors.

 

The reason I include the delivery times is because the Overwatch event is on Tuesday and I'm going to feel all kinds of ways about my friends getting the skins without me.

 

Also, if anyone has experience with fixing a GPU that flashes a red screen once and then dies, let me know :'D

Something tells me that a person with GTX 580 also has a very bad cpu. You sure your rig can handle a 1070? What are the specs?

If you want to fully utilize a 1070, something you bought to use with a 580 is going to bottleneck THE CRAP out of a 1070, regardless of which one you get.

 

I'd get a 6600K and you'll probably need a new motherboard, and so on and so forth.

 

Most of the time, you can't just upgrade one thing without having to upgrade the others.

CPUs haven't gotten much faster, only more power efficient.

 

Edit: The newer one has a higher max tdp!

i5 haswell was released in 2014 whilte a gtx 580 was released in 2010

Oh my bad guys the 580 is from my neighbor, I bought a gaming PC without the GPU at first so I could afford a new computer quicker and he was super cool and gave me his old card.

 

i5 6600k 4.5ghz

16gb DDR4 2400mhz

SSD and all that jazz

But the 1070 will be fine. Just get the chepaer 1070. It won't matter or hurt you at all

Is there any real difference between them besides the lights?

I know FTW will have slightly lower temps but that doesn't matter THAT much to me

You'll be fine.  The 6600K would not bottleneck a 1070 whatsoever.

 

I'd get the SC.  The extra money is definitely not worth the one day sooner of arrival.  The only way I would consider getting the FTW one is if you plan on changing your rig's color scheme in the future.
