Acer Predator XB241YU

VagabondWraith

My limit for xmas is $500. I was looking at this monitor and wondered if anybody knew if it's good? Is 24" too small for 1440p? This has G-Sync which is what I'm looking for at a decent price.

Thanks guys.

I would recommend looking at IPS options. I'm not too familiar to list off different panels off the top of my head, but color reproduction really helps with perception of a good image.

IPS and G-Sync is out of my budget. IPS would be nice but G-Sync is more important to me.

With a high refresh rate monitor, you may want reconsider. Most of GSyncs benefit is under 60FPS. With a 1080, i don't see you going under 60FPS often.

I'm going to be honest, G-sync isn't worth 100 bucks.

It's a nice piece of tech and it works great, but it's IMO not worth so much money.

What i would do is get a nice 1080p 144Hz monitor :P

Usually nicely priced and perform as you would expect.

I already have a nice 1080p 144Hz monitor. ASUS VG248QE. I've been wanting to step up to 1440p 144Hz G-Sync. This monitor seems perfect for my needs at my price point. I didn't find anything else at the price so just wondered what people think about Acer or this monitor in particular.

Also, getting the 1080 Ti will allow me to push as many frames as possible at this rez.

True, but I enjoy pushing settings to max to make my GPU sweat. :D Even over 60 will give me the comfort of having G-Sync always enabled.

In exchange for color reproduction though? If you're going for a 1080Ti, I think you'll be safe, and you'll enjoy a dramatically better experience than your current 144Hz TN panel.

So do you have any IPS monitors to recommend then? It has to be 1440p, 144Hz and $500 max.

If you're by a Fry's, I found this: http://www.frys.com/product/8522229

If you can hunt a little bit and really want to squeeze your money's worth stuff like this pops up every now and again:

Here's a reddit search that I recommend you follow that will help you find your feature set at your price point.

Why is GSYNC only worth it when under 60fps? Gsync matches your monitor's refresh rate with the amount of FPS your GPU can deliver. Without Gsync, you will have to lock your FPS with v-sync, which introduces lag. If you don't use Vsync, you will have screen tearing. Without gsync, you will have to mantain a steady 144fps on every game, which is virtually impossible. Framerate drops and rises, and it's not in sync with your monitor's refresh rate, and as i said, screen tearing. With gsync you will not have to worry about maintaining a specific number of FPS. Just activate gsync and play, no input lag, no caps, no worries. Sacrificing Gsync for color reproduction isn't worth it if you're going to use the monitor for gaming. IPS is nice, but a lot of people overrate it, sacrificing refresh rates, response times and gimmicks like GSYNC just to get the "best color reproduction".
