Hello I was thinking of upgrading my setup to include 3 1966x1080 24" monitors instead if the single one I have now. Currently I have a MSI GTX 960 2GB and I was wondering if it was a better idea to upgrade my graphics card before getting more monitors or if the 960 can handle gaming on three monitors. Thank you in advance for any help.

upgrade, I'd say 100 if you can. If you don't have that much then get a used 980Ti or a new 1060.

Would recommend a RX 480 or waiting for AMD Vega GPUs. New benchmarks show the RX 480 pulling ahead of the GTX 1060

If you really want to game on all 3 monitors however, you will need something like a GTX 1080 or the AMD equivalent of that. But since that is not out yet, I say wait before you have buyers remorse.

just the 960 could handle it with minimal fps draw back but you should get a new gpu like a 1060 or 1070 run your main monitor off the 1070 then run the 2 secondary monitors on the 960

Most people can probably read that sentence as he intended it, no need to keep arguing over it when this guy is trying to get some help.

OP - if you're only going to be gaming on one of the monitors, a 1060/480 would be fine, but if you're wanting to use 2/3 of them, you'd need a 1070/1080.

Seriously though, Newegg is selling the sapphire nitro r9 fury (definitely more powerful than a 1060) for $260... $240 with a $20 MIR, but that's not always reliable. I just picked one up. It is surprisingly quiet. If you turn the fans to full blast it's like a leaf blower, but you won't ever have to do that since the heat sink is insanely huge and it's got 3 fans. The only downside is 4gb of vram so that might not be enough for you... not sure about that last bit though.
