You forgot to mention a few things... Most importantly, what's your budget?

Do you need any peripherals, a monitor and Windows?

I'll edit the post.

Thank You.

How long do you intend to have this rig also do you want us to make the best computer for $1200 or should we be aiming lower?

Only a 275GB drive for ALL of his storage? I would dial it back just a little bit on the graphics card, see if you can't get even a cheapo Seagate or something to give him even a little bit of storage..275GB, almost of that will be gone by the time it's formatted and Windows and other programs get installed

Why the xeon? Wouldn't an i7 6700 be a much better choice for gaming? Or i5 6600 to save a little

Also 1080 is overkill for 1080p. Gtx1060 would be more than enough. I dont think the concept of future proofing applies now days. You can get the best now and 3years later its obsolete. E.g. HBM, lower tdp's, etc.

The money saved on the Gtx1080 would be better spent on a bigger capacity and much faster m.2 drive like samsungs 950 evo nvme

For a 1080p system anyway

This I kindof disagree with. Only because I'm hitting a performance cap with my i5 and GTX 980 [which i'm told is essentially like a 1060] trying to play Watch Dogs 2 on Ultra in 1080

that xeon is just an i7 6700 without an iGPU and a few extra features, no difference in gaming. and the i5 will cause fps drops and stuttering while the i7 will be much smoother in gaming. the gtx 1080 will be good if he is playing at 1080p 144hz, where even a gtx 1070 cannot max out games at 144fps. and btw, the 950 pro does absolutely jackshit for gaming.

True. Didn't think about 144hz gaming but what kind of fps are we aiming for here?

Also the 950evo wont do anything for gaming, but 256gb is not enough. Especially if you look at games like bf1, the division.... just those 2 games are almost 100gb!!!!!!! More storage with m.2 capability is what i was aiming at
