I have recently got my old Dell back from my mother's office. It's a Dell Dimension 4500s. Windows XP Home wouldn't install right after 20+ tries. I decided windows 2000 may be better. I am able to use it with compatability mode on the cpu turned on. I need to be able to play music on this pc and thats it, but i keep getting the following stop command:

STOP: 0x0000001E (0xC0000005, 0xED3F8930< 0x00000001, 0x0000001D)

KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

Address ED3F8930 base at ED3F8000, DataStamp 3e25ba56 - HIDCLASS.SYS

Please, I would really like to get this pc working right.

I don't think many people on this forum know lots about windows versions that old. try to install a lightweight Linux distro or something if that ancient PC can handle it.

Well, I would like to put a linux distro designed for audio fidelity. But, PLOP boot cd won't work with the drive and I don't have a spare. And, I always wanted to try out windows 2000. This pc is gonna get Windows ME if it keeps giving me hell; properly punish this cursed system.

I only have access to 2 ddr ram sticks; a 256mb and a 512mb, both have issues. I have reason to believe it is a faulty cpu, as it will boot with compatability mode instead of normal mode. My gf's father is a computer technition and just had a pentium 4 system die on him, and I'm gonna try to get the cpu and ram. I also have a cd-rw with plop, different to the one i have that should work.
 Wish me luck.
