Would I need extra drivers for this?

I want to install an SSD (here is the link to one I might buy: http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/rds/sop/5904295913.html) in my T61 laptop. I already have a win10 key from my previous PC build and have a usb with a windows 10 iso. Do I need to install extra drivers. If i need to can you please link the drivers and give me some basic instructions? Thanks

you don't need any drives for windowsPE.

After it installs, Id probably install the thinkpad drives for the track pad. It enabes things like the trackpad disable and other things. Normally things like wifi work out of the box much better in win10 than win7

Just think before buying that SSD. it's total trash - some 10k RPM hard drives are faster ffs.

Check the reviews on Amazon, it explains it all

Its fine for older laptop and will perform better than 7200rpm 2.5" drives. Or 5400rpm drives, since those were more common back then. Besides, why would you pick HDD which is noisy and heats up? When you can have SSD which does neither.

I'm aware that SSDNow series isn't popular among users here, and for good reason. Its not meant for gaming or power users. But it will be fine for entry level or older laptop.

true, considering it'll saturate the sata2 bus easily

idk

Kingston does have a utility that monitors the drive which I use and would recommend.  It tells you when your drive is getting ready to die and stuff like that.  So it really can be super helpful

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

There is nothing wrong with that SSD.  It doesn't write as fast as some 10k SSD's but it reads probably 3-4x faster than any HDD...  NOT INCLUDING the seek times (which is what you're waiting for on platter drives anyways).  Its a entry level drive, at a entry level price.

That is NOT what happened.  You're showing a EXTREME level of ignorance on the subject matter.

What happened is they released the V300 series and said it had xxxMBs Reads and yyyMBs Writes.  This drive generally performed XXXMBs and YYYMBs (where the capital indicates better than stated).  For example They state a 450MBs read speed for the 480GB model, and in reality it was getting 500MBs.  Which is a great deal.

What they changed is the number of chips used in parallel on the lower end models, like the 60GB model.  The 60GB model states a 150MBs read speed with a 50MBs write speed.  This drive only has 2 storage chips today, but 2 years ago it had 4 chips in it.  Today they're 2 32GB chips, where as before they were 4 16GB chips.  And there in lies the reason why you see a "performance difference" today versus 2 years ago when it launched, because the "older" model is more parallelized.  BUT, they have NEVER misquoted performance that negatively impacted the consumer.  You paid $75 for a 120GB drive that got XXXMBs and YYYMBs and it has always gotten those speeds.

I would have no problem using this in my system (I personally use a Kingston 3k HyperX in my desktop and a V300 in my notebook), it is a VERY good drive and for the money especially, you're not going to find a better drive.

ALTHOUGH, right now if I was buying I'd be getting the Kingston UV400, their newer and cheaper model that actually offers better performance...

heh, i've never owned the drive itself - the amazon reviews are full of people bitching about how the low end models are literally trash for an SSD. very good writeup, and thank you for educating me on the matter.

idk
