Upgrade 680 to 780?

sze_nian

Since theres starting to have price dropping of the 780 on market, should i let go my 680(Asus DCII OC) and upgrade to a 780(ref design)? Does it worth it?

Personally feels that GK110 powered 780 will last longer and it got a 3GBDDR5 while my 680 only 2GB, and reference design sexy too. xD

So, any suggestion? Ohh ya, how much could i let go my 680. First time selling off pc items so need some help. Thanks alot guys!

It depends on your needs. What settings are you aiming for and in what games? You haven't listed any audio gear or monitors in your signature, maybe they could use some upgrading first.

1. Yes it will be worth it if you hvae the money (30% performance increase) 2. Pls don't get a reference card unless your watercooling the card. 3. maybe 150-200$.

My Pc: Cpu: I7 4790k @ 4,8 Ghz @1,25 volts, Motherboard: Maximus VII Formula, Graphicscard: 2x Titan X @1,4 at stock voltage (soon to be replaced), Ram: 32 gb Corsair Dominator Platinum 2133 Cl 9, SSD: 2x 850 Pro 1 Tb in Raid 0, 2x Samsung 840 Evo 1 tb raid 1,, PSU: Corsair HXi Series 1000W 80+ Platinum, Case: H440. Soon to be watercooled again, maybe, probably, the Titans are too loud.

If sli i need to spend a couple more bulks for the upgrade due to my PSU only 760w. But i know sli will have much more powerful performance increase.

My settings, mostly want to max out at all extreme titles such as Battlefield 4 and so on. im not so an audio freak. so my SupremeFX on Rampage IV Gene should serve me well for a couple more whiles. and i sold my 680 to top up a little to buy 780. thats whats my thoughts.

Thanks for the reply. i kinda like the reference cooler though... xD maybe get a reference card and next time slowly upgrade to watercooling it. cause i saw asus n giga (only 2 brand can find at my place for 3rd party cooler maker) have their 780 at 2gb only and cost more...

It's worth it now that the GIGABYTE GV-N780OC-3GD REV2.0 GeForce GTX 780 WindForce 3X is just a little over $500 at Newegg. A week ago or more I would have said no.

You can even get the Galaxy GeForce GTX 780 HOF for $540 from Amazon but may have to wait a bit for it to arrive.

760 Watts should be more the enough for 2 gtx 680's (I run dual 780's and i have a consumation of about 650-700 Watts)

If you can't afford a 680 then you won't be able to afford a 780.

I know i looked that up but your Gtx 680  will sell for something between 150$ and 200$. If we take the average which is 175$ and convert that into MYK it's around :550 MYR a Gtx 780 will run you about 2000 MYK so you should have to pay 1450 MYK to get an 780. And then 1700 MYK - 1450 MYK = 250 MYK= 80$. If you get yourself an GTX 780 over another gtx 680 you will save 80$. And lose around 20-40% performance  (780: 130% Dual 680: 150- 170% depending on the drivers and the games)

Thanks for ur analysis bro. See hows my situations goes. If i able to make a high price trade off, i might go for it. If not, might as well as stick to single 680 or maybe sli it in future if saw one cheap 680 flies in. xD Thanks alot.
