When I play certain video files on my laptop there is a very noticeable and mostly constant static noise. It has happened with two .mkv files so far. It is not the headphones since it only happens with some files on one computer. The drivers are updated.

The files may have problems with the encoded audio. Were these files converted from one format to another, or downsized in any fashion? Were any of the elements changed?

I don't believe so, I simply downloaded the files form the internet.

Can you provide a download source for the files to see if I can replicate it?

Well it only happens on my laptop so the problem is most likely isolated to that individual laptop. If I play the video on my PC the problem does not occur. Downloading the file yourself is most likely pointless

What programs are you using on each respective machine?

The static is also there with or without using headphones

When you tried the files on your other computer, did you use the same files or did you re-download them?

Exact same files

What volume is your laptop set at when this occurs? Have you tried to reduce the volume to see if the effect is reduced or completely removed?

Could it be a codec issue with my computer?

It could be, but I find it odd that it only happens with those two files.

Ok. So I found the problem. I used "HandBrake" to re-encode the mkv file to a mp4 and it plays fine without static. So for some reason the player on my laptop did not support that particular codec. Thanks for your help in the matter anyway.
