How many win 10 versions will still be released? I'm asking because I like only clean OS installation and not upgrades on my system. I 've heared that red stone 2 will be released on march 2017 so if I install win 10 rs1 now it will be upgraded on March and I don't want this to happen.

Can I completely stop upgrades to newer versions?

"Defer upgrades" only delays the upgrades for some months as I have understood.

just get window 10 home edition and don't worry about it and yes you can disable update on window 10

I don't mean editions like home, pro etc. I mean versions like 1511 or 1607(current).

I also want os updates but not auto upgrades.

Is this possible to happen and how?

no version of W10 will allow you indefinitely ignore updates

even the enterprise versions will only allow few months to defer updates

  • security updates can be delayed for 1 month max
  • build upgrades can only be delayed for 8 months max

You need the enterprise LTSB version if you want updates but no upgrades. Which you can't buy unless you get VL.

Just let your system upgrade. It won't hurt anything

So if I have a dual boot system(win and linux) with grub loader, the upgrade will install windows boot loader and so I will not be able to access my linux partition.

use two independent disk drives and install each OS on it's own drive

use BIOS to select which OS drive boots

The screenshot above is from VL version?

I have a pro version installed on a VM and I cannot find this setting in group policy.

Here is how I have set my system with windows 8.1 right now:

C:(ssd)-->OS, games

D:(HDD partition)-->low end software

E:(HDD partiotion)-->storage

And the is a linux HDD partition.

(HDD is divided in 3 partitions: d-e-linux)

I believe that if it was windows 10 and it upgraded it would f*ck the whole setup.

yes, it's not available on retail (end user) versions of W10

the linux home folder can be moved to a diff drive, the rest would need to be reinstalled - I don't have much experience with moving Linux

Windows 10 is a continuously develop OS similarly to Android, iOS and MacOS

What we know being scheduled is: RedStone 2 (Creators Update) coming in March and RedStone 3 Coming sometime in Fall.

As long as you don't use crap system tweak utilities or get viruses, your system should have no problem upgrading and installing new releases of Windows.

If you want a demo of the reliability of the upgrade process, simply look those who are in the beta program of Windows, where they get new builds of Windows weakly, each time doing a full OS upgrade, and that, as mentioned:  beta, so bugs are expected, and yet it has no problem related to this process.

No. You cannot stop upgrades. From security perspective, it is HIGHLY recommended to keep your software and OS FULLY updated, no matter what device or OS (Linux, Unix, Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android, etc.) they are.  As long as humans develop software, nothing will be perfect, and therefore other humans (which you can call criminals) will try and exploit discovered security holes through software and/or through the OS.

When you update the OS, things are usually clean. I am afraid, the "getting dirty" is in your head. Heck, before, with previous version of Windows, you had updates regardless of what you do. Including day 1 updates, as you could not get the latest ISO, and even if you did, it didn't include the latest update which the OS had weekly.
