Nope, it will be good. Just give it a overclock and the difference between it and the skylake/kaby lake CPUs will diminish greatly.

That cpu is bottlenecked-proof for a while, and should handle the GTX 1080 just fine. In fact, the Titan XP would work fine with it.

4790k is a pretty decent cpu, especially for gaming. There is absolutely no reason to upgrade any time soon.

you're fine . It's only 5-10% slower than a 6700k anyway.

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

Don't get excited unless you really like getting disappointed.

You're good with a 4790K for a long time to come. I don't anticipate replacing mine until 2020 or so.

Kaby Lake is underwhelming thus far. Clock for clock, Skylake matches its performance, but Kaby Lake has serious thermal issues.

If you want a real upgrade, then go X99 with a 5820K/6800K, no other mainstream CPU is a worthy upgrade...

Careful with that recommendation. The 5820K is slightly gimped on PCIe lanes. If someone wants to do an SLI setup on their very high-end CPU, they'd be unable to do a dual x16 configuration. I believe the same limitation exists on the 6800K. For someone looking for a real upgrade for a true gaming PC, the 6850K is a better choice...albeit a pricier one.

The PCIe lanes are more than the 4790K, so it will be an upgrade in that department as well. The 6850K is a better choice than the 6800K for sure, as it seems like it also overclocks a bit better than the 6800K. (Whereas the 5930K usually overclocks worse than the 5820K)

If you are on a  budget though, the 5820K is still very good (especially for just $350)

No doubt about that. I'd love to get myself a Haswell-E or Broadwell-E platform, I just don't have any particular use for the extra cores or threads. I'll take a 1070 instead of an X-99 board and six-core CPU ;)

Hopefully you have better luck then I did. Tried a 1080 strix and now on a 1080 evga sc. Playing bf1 on ultra at 1440 isn't so great but other games are better. Playing it on ultra makes in unplayable as the cpu is at 100.

Played BO3 quite a but, with 2 titan blacks and the graphics on max would also yield 100%.

Id say it depends on your games. I didn't buy new flag ships to play games on high/med so Im prolly gonna upgrade.
