Second hand pc upgrades

Hello guys

i recently purchased a second hand system (thanks to scrapyard wars) with the following configuration

i3-4160 with stock cooler

biostar b-85 s3+ mother board

kingston 8gb ddr3 ram

toshiba dt01aca100 hard drive 7200rpm 32mb cache 6gbps

and gt 610 graphics card.

400watt psu came with the case.

 

is it worth upgrading the graphics card to 750ti or the 1050ti? for light gaming?

max 1080p 

i play games like assassins creed, civilizations, sins of a solar empire, ksp. mainly strategy types.

 

or should i wait and upgrade to a better pc all together?

The system is less than six months old. Got it from an internet cafe that ran into cash trouble.

I would definitely get a 1050Ti to go with that. Or a RX 470 if you prefer AMD.

Yup. 1050Ti if you're going that route, and perhaps a cheap SSD.

I wouldn't dump too much into the system, but you won't get far with that graphics card.

I love piecing together computers from Craigslist parts! Always an adventure trying to find everything.

Though there are some things (peripherals, storage and PSUs) I'll never buy used.

no but the cpu is good and I would go up to a RX480 or 1060 if I was in that spot.

Yes. But I wouldn't really sink anything more than a couple hundred into a graphics card.

that doesn't say how much is too much. and you could later on get an i7/xeon and a new gpu and do great

At that point you'd have to replace the PSU, likely the motherboard, and depending on the configuration the RAM.

So. At that point you might as well rebuild.

motherboard should be fine, ram same but yeah at that point a new psu is needed.

yes get new GPU because the 610 scores pretty bad

After you guys got on chatting about the psu, I checked it out. its an iball ( real shady stuff) so gonna change that to a corsair 450 watt and hopefully the 1050ti the rest seems legit. Thanks a lot guys.
