Possible non-functioning PCIe?

Hi! 

Just built my first build, putting everything together, and the WIFI card's software wasn't finding the card.

 

I swapped the card to the slot above it, and it immediately recognized the card and installed all the drivers properly.

 

I swapped my card back to the bottom slot, and it still wouldn't see it.

 

This has me thinking that this PCIe slot is broken on my new Asus - Aii x99 board. Or, someone please tell me I'm missing something here.

Try a non wifi card in the slot, mobo might be weirding out with pcie neteork devices

is there no way I can check each slot's functionality thru software?

Not really.

Go into the BIOS and use the board checker. Find the slot it should be occupying. If it doesn't show, dead slot. If it does, check Device Manager next.

Where can I find the board checker? been digging thru and I can find basically every other input

Could it have something to do with these cards being the small size inside a x16 slot that looks like it has 8?

No. The cards will run at the lowest speed they are provided.

On MSI, it's called Board Explorer. Look for something similar.

It sounds like a dead slot. Call the company and get an RMA started.

first, check for bent cpu pins. They can cause issues like this.

I'm in PCI express speed configuration right now, and it looks like 3 PCI slots are showing right now? I have a 16 card, and two 1's in. Does this mean it's seeing that slot?

nvm... looks like these 3 options show up normally. oh well.

 

i got the board today, should I return it to where I got it? or deal with Asus?

Just got and installed the new board. Same exact problem. I assume its not two equally broken boards and my issue lies elsewhere?

It could be the cards themselves.

It should work since it's PCIe x1. You said it works in other slots, right?

This is PCI (non-express). It won't work in a PCIe slot.

On my box it says both in parenthesis.  Could network cards simply not work in the bottom slot and neither does this firewire card? (yes it worked in the others)

If that's the case, I would be extremely happy.

oo, my wifi doesn't have a slot for one, and I assumed my other 1x card wouldn't need one either, as my firewire hardware is powered.

But I just noticed as molex slot in this firewire card, I will test it again with the cable in!!!

my wifi one does, but that's in a working slot.

My Firewire card does not

Got the drivers in for both cards, are you talking about the motherboard?
