Preparing Windows USB, MediaCreationTool not recognizing USB

I've tried several USB flash drives, 2.0, 3.0, all working, with fat32, ntfs, 4gb, 8gb, again all working, able to read/write on the computer, and yet the MediaCreationTool doesn't recognize them. :( I "Refresh drive list" in the tool, but it is stuck at "We can't find a USB flash drive." I've tried closing/reopening the tool, even restarting comp and the infamous "have you tried turning it off and on again". Nothing. I also run as administrator.

Yep. nope.

yep on direct connect.

nope on another comp, don't have another except a macbook.

I'm going to try using Rufus, first downloading ISO then using rufus with that on the usb.

edit - welllll... the iso download will be slow, time to put in a movie. :)

Then the USB drive doesn't support booting very well.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

You can make a Bootable USB and mount the ISO manually through CMD. That's what I normally do.

download iso; cmd as admin: diskpart > list disk > select disk [# for usb drive] > clean > create partition primary > select partition 1 > active > format fs=ntfs > assign > exit; xcopy [iso] /s/e/f [usb]

Yep. It's an ancient laptop.

So there is your problem.  It might not have the right technologies to do the right kind of booting.
