Will an i5 2300 bottleneck a 1060?

Hi there,

So in my current build I got most of the parts handed down from my brother. The CPU is the intel i5 2300 @2.8GHz, and my GPU is the GeForce GTS 250 by Gainward. It's served my well but with christmas around the corner, it's pretty much the only time of year I can get new PC parts, and I had my eyes on a really good deal for the Zotac GTX 1060 mini. And although The Price is Right™, I'm wondering: How badly, if at all, would my current CPU bottleneck the 1060?

Not badly, if at all. I would suggest upgrading the CPU to something more current though.

Most games will be ok, games that do have a bigger CPU requirement will suffer a slight hit but nothing too unplayable like you should be able to maintain 60 FPS after reducing a few settings if any.

An i5 2300 and a GTX 1060 are REALLY close...

GTA V: Small CPU bottleneck.

Rise of the Tomb Raider: No bottleneck.

Battlefield one: Both parts maxed out.

You should be fine. I would get the 1060, and just expect to upgrade the CPU next.

Fine you want the PSU tier list? Have the PSU tier list: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1116640-psu-tier-list-40-rev-103/

It won't too much, you will only notice it in games like Battlefield 1 and GTA5 but nothing to stop you from upgrading :)

Thank you all for the quick replies! I'm happy with a little bottleneck, so long as it's not severe. I'll definitley upgrade the CPU next.
