I am thinking of getting a new case. I currently have a cheap mATX and want to go even smaller. I want to know if this is:

A good idea or a bad idea

If a mini itx case can support a full size graphics card

Thank you! I already know I will need to get a new mobo, I have not made any purchases yet and have a pretty flexible budget so just throw at me what you reccomend

Yeah, there are tons of great ITX cases that support full size GPUs! I like the Silverstone RVZ-02, Fractal Design Node 202, Silverstone Sugo SG13, just to name a few, but there are tons out there!

As for motherboards, I am a fan of the Z170-i pro gaming from Asus, the colour scheme is mostly neutral and it has a nice feature set for ITX  (that is of course you're on LGA 1151)

Main Rig: R9 5950X @ PBO, RTX 3090, 64 GB DDR4 3666, InWin 101, Full Hardline Watercooling

Server: R7 1700X @ 4.0 GHz, GTX 1080 Ti, 32GB DDR4 3000, Cooler Master NR200P, Full Soft Watercooling

LAN Rig: R5 3600X @ PBO, RTX 2070, 32 GB DDR4 3200, Dan Case A4-SFV V4, 120mm AIO for the CPU

HTPC: i7-7700K @ 4.6 GHz, GTX 1050 Ti, 16 GB DDR4 3200, AliExpress K39, IS-47K Cooler

Router: R3 2200G @ stock, 4GB DDR4 2400, what are cases, stock cooler

I don't have a problem...

Pretty much all ITX cases can support a full size GPU unless it's exceptionally long or more than 2 slots thick. If you want a decent sized one with lots of expansion options, I'd recommend the Enthoo Evolv ITX.

This is all preference based, but I never really got the point of cases like the Nano S, Manta, and Evolv ITX. They're so big you may as well go mATX and have more slots (IMO). If I'm going to go ITX, it's because size is the first priority. Curious as to how you justify cases like that???

Yea, I see some sizes of itx are pretty big but I am going for a pretty small one just because I need the room.

You have to compromise on a lot of other stuff like a PSU basement, storage mounting options and radiator compatibility if you want an mATX case that size. So it comes down to whether you value those things or more slots more.

There are quite a few great mITX cases out there, if you have the budget I highly recommend the NCase M1.

How are you trying to reduce size? Height? Width? Google Project Orthrus. It's a pretty cool mATX case, but it's smaller than most mITX and can support AIO liquid cooling.

Not true at all. There are many, many ITX cases that can't.

Not really what I'm saying. I'm saying if I'm going ITX, it's to be small, first priority. My view is that once I go to a case like the Evolv ITX or similar, I may as well go JUST A BIT BIGGER since it is already getting kinda chunky, and I can have all those things AND dual GPUs

I agree, they're specific to a certain size. It's pretty much for if you don't want go any bigger, but also don't want to sacrifice the features of a full ATX case to go smaller (rad support, PSU basement, etc.). But most of the time people won't mind. But I still recommend the Evolv in particular because I love how it looks, but perhaps I should stop because that's all subjective.

Yes, there are a great many Mini ITX cases that can support full-size GPUs. Check the case specs when you buy. Tiny little boxes like the CM Elite 110 can only fit cut-down GPUs, but there are plenty of cases that can take an R9 Fury if you feel like it.

There is a bit of a premium on ITX hardware, particularly motherboards, and some design choices you have to make. If you want four DIMMs to install RAM, ITX is not for you. Want wifi? Either buy a board with it or enjoy your craptastic USB wifi dongle. Looking to break records overclocking your 6700K? Probably won't happen in the typical ITX case, where airflow is at something of a premium.

That said, you gain space on your desk, portability and style that, IMO, doesn't come standard on ATX towers. Also, you get compliments. Like, crazy compliments, if you take a small case with a window and make it look good.

And if you take a Core V1 and run it with the side panels removed, it looks really steampunk...

...why the hell does my phone's camera have enough lens flare to make J.J. Abrams complain about the directorial style?

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.
