I have the P8Z77-V Deluxe and the auto overclock feature seems very gd.

I understand the voltages are probably higher than what u could achieve manually but still seems prety gd and saves so much time.

It self tests as it goes but would still need to prime 95 it.

Any1 have any more detail on whether this is a gd solution or is it just for noobs?

Its a good solution.. kinda. More for if you where building a system for somone. I think one of the ASUS boards that has it like dose tests to see how it it would go (within a safe setting set buy ASUS I believe). But more for the people who don't know how / don't wish to / noobs. When they can get the maximum 24 / 7 stable overclock with it I think a lot of people would be happy. Hope I helped? If you don't have the time to manually overclock and find the voltage required for the speed you wish to achieve, yes it's a nice feature. As you said it uses more voltage than what is probably required but as long as your not having temperature issues and the voltage is not sky high I see no reason not to use it.

what i usualy do is let the MOBO figure things out and then i change thing from that point. start by increasing the multiplier, then turn down the voltage coz almost all the time the mobo choose a higher than necessary Vcore. so how to turn down the voltage. always try to use intel speed step coz it will save your CPU for a longer time. to do this use Vcore offset. this you have to exprement by changing the it to + or - depending on how much voltage MOBO is currently giving to the CPU under load. change to + if its too low and causing crashes. and to - if its too hing. there will be a amount to be set as of how much offset it has to be. so again its the same general idea. the more you increase the value it will add or sub from the original amount. try messing with C, C1 ,C1E and C6 power states to get stable cpu speeds under much lower Vcores. Note* one of the C-states keep the intel speed step working so be aware of the. also Vcore offset only works if speed step is On. hope this helps :)

I used the turbo ratio only to overclock one time... 2 weeks later I realized it was running my 3770K at 4.8 GHz 1.5-1.55 volts. I had to change my pants. Lol I felt so stupid for doing that now. Thank god nothing bad happened.
