144hz monitor worth it/ necessary?

soon I'm going to have the following setup: Intel Core i7 4790K @ 4.00 GHZ ; ASUS ROG STRIX OC GTX 1070 @ 1860 Boost Clock ; 16 GB Crucial Ballistix Sport RAM ; ASROCK H97M PRO4 Motherboard ; Samsung 850 Pro 256GB SSD

 

1. Please rate my setup. What do you think about it? Do you like it?

 

2. I'm currently playing on a DELL U2515H 24" 2K monitor @ 60hz, but since I would reach way more fps in ultra on a 2k monitor with a 1070 than before, I'm thinking about eventually switching to a 144hz 2k monitor. Is it worth it or even necessary? Would you recommend it? Consider that it would cost me >600$ which is not easy to afford since I do not have much money.

You should get a Z170 series motherboard if you want to overclock your CPU.

 

Edit: Unlocked Haswell boards are Z97.

well what games do you play? with that GPU you should be able to hit 1080p/1440p at more than 60FPS so having the 144hz monitor will be noticeable. is it necessary? no but it is worth the money i will have to say

dont you mean Z97 as he is looking at the 4790k which is haswell refresh not skylake

If you're a high level twitch gamer (as in, twitch reflexes), then it might help. If you play those kinds of games casually or play slower paced games, then no, don't bother.

1. If you haven't bought it yet, I would invest in Skylake (or if you're willing to wait, Kaby Lake). Even then, you've paired an unlocked CPU with a motherboard that cannot overclock it (you want a Z-series chipset).

 

2. Just to get this out of the way, 2K =/= 1440p. A higher refresh rate makes a big difference if you can drive that sort of high framerate. It'll be easier to do in some games (CS:GO for instance) but it'd be hard to achieve if you're playing demanding AAA titles at 1440p 144Hz max settings.

 

Is it necessary? No, but it makes a huge and noticeable difference. Whether or not it's worth it is completely up to you.

I did buy everything except the GPU in summer 2015. I have a gtx 970 right now, but I want to upgrade it.

Worth, since you can downscale to 1080 if you are aiming to hit 144 in ashooters but want the 1440 60plus for others

Yeah well thats technically true but even though it doesnt look very good to play with the non-resolution of monitor.
