when i first joined i joined 50 groups and i kept getting annoying messages from a particular popular meetup that had thousands of members and regular weekly events. i ended up pm'ing a team leader or whatever they are called and he ended up banning me from their meetup which i thought was totally childish and inmature on his part. i emailed him back stating my apologies and he reinstated me into the meetup. since then i have talked to a handful of other people who have had run ins with this nut job. i guess he is the founder of the meetup. today i attended one of his meetups after i ran across the app searching for something else.

i realize i have not attended a meetup in a long time. the last one i went to was a gaming meetup and found it to be quite awkward while other similar meetups its casual and laid back, sometimes parents bring their chidlren to a community room in the coop grocery store. i guessed on my username and pw and i logged in right away and looked over the meetups i have joined and i think its a great service they provide especially for newcomers to a city. i plan to attend more. i find that a good percentage of the events happen in bars, pool halls, bowling alleys, that seems to be the theme, while the activity side of things is more interesting like hikes, walks, bicycle riding, physical sports like baseball, volleyball, basketball and the like. this year i have decided to go skiing, and will go all out renting skis and boots even though i have that gear. it will be expensive as the lift tickets are usually $100 plus transportation, gas, and food. i wish i could stay up there for the night but that will just add more cost. has anyone else joined meetup and how do you find it?
