Hi all,

This is more or less aimed at @colonel_mortis although anybody else can pitch in.

Would it be possible for the dev team of LTT to make a new and better API which would expose functionality to allow 3rd party apps or programs to use the forum more easily?

This hypothetical API would be web based like the current one is and would allow ANY device platform to access information available on LTT. Be able to retrieve info on the content, posts, topics, status updates, members, followers,  the whole 9 yards.

I know it would be annoying to implement (but then again, what API isn't annoying to implement?) and I know it would be time consuming (again, what API isn't time consuming?).

But I think honestly it would be worth it. I'd love to be able to have more fun playing with the forum and content that we have now. I think LTT really has potential as a platform for developers.

So I'll end on something Steve Ballmer famously said.

Developers! Developers! Developers! :)

A proper API would be nice. The problem is, there are a lot of other things that would be nice too, and they would benefit a lot more people, or the same or less work on our part, because as you noted creating the API would be incredibly annoying to implement properly, and development time is severely limited at the moment (and for the foreseeable future), so making an API is not high enough on the list of priorities that it is likely to happen.

fair enough though return json would be enough to get a reading application going.

I agree an API would be useful for a lot of things, including the ability for a possible app for the forums.

However, an API would take a little while to implement, although I personally would do this for the forums, I do not believe for one second that I nor anyone really would be allowed to have access to the server to test this.

Though if this may end up becoming a feature, I offer my services.

Cheers,

Leon.
