Is my dad too strict? He's threatening to kick me out of the house when I turn 18 if he finds out I miss one homework in school, and I accidentally missed one the other day because I never copied the questions. I'm scared of his reaction or if he finds out at all. What should I do?

Leave before you get kicked out xD

OR you can drag your mom (or other family member into it

BUT most likely it was just an empty threat to get you to do your homework (I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be able to legally kick you out anyways)

He legally can when I'm 18. And he tells me he's on his last straw because my brother just failed out of college that my dad was paying for. I don't have the money to pay for my own college so I'm hoping it is just an empty threat or else I'm gonna have to take a lot of student loans

/sarcasm

Because your Dad never made any mistakes.....did he...

/end of sarcasm

I hate hearing about parents being ever SO strict with their kids, knowing no one in the history of history is perfect!

If he is willing to threaten you (via homelessness) to get you into gear....

He's either overly strict, or you come across as a slacker to him....

Either way you will have to get this mindset of his out of the ballpark or you'll be stuck in a rut of

"If your not doing good enough, your not good enough"

Which is BS. While most Parents don't want their kids to make mistakes they likely made, its inevitable!

Threatening your kid, adding stress to the already stressful situation... yeah that totally helps!

Sell your computer and pay for your own school fees. When you start to work and fail to do your work. You'll get sack as well. There will be always the first time in everything. Just be glad your dad is still alive and paying for your expenses.

My computer would be the first thing to go if selling it even made a dent in college tuition. I do work now part time, and do all my work in school, that's why i think it's a little strict that he's threatening me for missing only one homework

I ever got fired for missing one project at work. No one even threaten me, that's the best part. Just take it as a concern and motivation. Parents can be unreasonable for a very good reason even tho it's bad taking it in at times.

How old are you and what year are you? I feel like this is an empty threat yet, I don't know. I would try not to worry about that threat and continue what's going on currently in school. Try your best and see where you can improve, such as GPA, completing credits and etc. If you are in your Junior or Senior I would make goals like studying for the ACT/SAT and looking for a good college to get accepted into by the time you graduate. By then I wouldn't doubt you'd get kicked out. Would going to a Local Junior College with a great scholarship and financial good reason to stay with family awhile longer?

I'm 17 in my senior year. I have an 86 gpa (I think like a 3.3) and have been taking honors courses since middle school. My older brothers never took any honors and barely passed in school and he never said a word. I scored a 26 on my ACT and a 1900 on my SAT. I'm not too worried about being accepted into any of the 3 schools I'm looking at, but it's paying for them that's the problem

Whats the matter with getting kicked out when your 18? my mom got kicked out when she was 16, ya know what she did? She got a job and a place to live, she lived with her bf until she could afford her own place. I would imagine you would get a job and go to college. I dont understand the worry. Also, if your worried about paying for school. Theres college loans for that exact reason and a lot of times theres weird scholarships and grants and other financial aid, you will be fine.

Well getting a job around here wouldn't be too easy. I don't have a boyfriend to live with until I have a place to stay on my own, an I can't stay with either of my brothers because ones living at home after failing out of school (which makes me think it's an empty threat) and ones in Afghanistan right now, but I do get what you are trying to say. And I don't have many skills to use in the work place. I'm okay with technology I guess, but not good enough for a job. My only skill is music and theory which is really only applicable in college where I can get a degree and then get a job to live on my own

You dont need to have any skill to be a waiter or work at a walmart or whatever. It probably is an empty threat, but you should be planning to leave the home then anyway. so, you should get a job,any job at all, anything you can get. then get a school loan, and live in the dorms and live off of ramen and monster energy drinks like every other college student. Im not trying to sound mean or rude i just dont understand the worry.

No hard feelings at all man. Pretty much all I'm worried about is getting kicked before I'm even in college. Once I'm there I'm fine, but getting through this year is what I'm struggling with when it comes to my dad. Say he kicks me out in the middle of my senior year when I'm 18. What do?

you have to live in a house during highschool. they wont accept you homeless. and like everyone said, its a empty threat. maybe he just said it out of anger towards your brother. Things like that are the reasons i think parents should NOT pay for college. My parent pay for room and board first year, after that, they dont pay for anything. My oldest sister is going into her 3 year of medical school and this is her 3rd time in college and shes payed for all of it with loans. just dont worry, what i would do is have a very flexible plan and then see what happens, dont get your mind set on one thing. Maybe he kicks you out, maybe he doesnt. it all depends

Eh yeah, that's overly harsh.

Being understandable that he wants you to do well in school I see where is coming from.

But come on this is ridiculous....

Why does he have kids anyway if he treats them like this. :/

Succes is often achieved through failure and their mistakes that you learn from.

Why would he say that he is on his last straw? It was your brother who failed, not you. Just sayin'.
