So this is my rig: Asus Z170 PD-3 Mobo, Intel i5 6600K, 2 sticks of Kingston Hyper X Fury 8 GB RAM 1866 MHz, windows 10, and a Zalman Z11 Neo case.  My question is is it possible for me to upgrade my CPU to an I7 6700K and if so in what ways wis the I7 better? Sorry for the noob question

You could upgrade to an i7, but the i5 is still good. Unless you are noticing that its slowing you down then upgrade.

Only real significant difference is hyperthreading.

Yes you can upgrade, but what do you use your computer for? The i5 can still kick ass in gaming and in other properties.

The only real differnce is the extra 4 threads, but that is only useful for editing/rendering, not much improvement for gaming (+ 2Mb more cache not that that matters much). I would just stick to the i5.

If you really want to upgrade it maybe instead of focusing on the cpu which is already very good you can spend it on your graphics card. I mean seeing gaming is your priority the priority should be the graphics card. As I didn't know what graphics card your using so maybe that's another alternative.

If your graphics card is good, just put it back to your piggy bank and unleash hell for the next line of series of other components :D
