VR also killed off 3D monitors because you don't need a special monitor, you only need a GPU that is capable of VR and that's about it.

Well with the 3d monitors you only had to wear the glasses in VR you have to wear the entire pc.

not really.  most 144hz monitors will display 3d.  lack of content is a pain though

both are expensive in the sense that you have to be able to have the hardware to push it, but the monitors aren't any more expensive than any other high refresh rate monitor.  Under 200$ can get you a decent 24" 144hz/1080p

That is why i think the 3d monitor were more practical sure VR  is better but it targets very small group .
