Hello everyone! I am planning to build a gaming PC for circa 1900 CAD (including the OS, not peripherals). I live in Sweden but I will be ordering my parts from NCIX since it's cheaper, but if anyone knows of a cheaper store in Sweden please let me know. As I've said this will be a gaming PC, so I'll be playing any modern titles but mostly FPS games such as BF4 and Arma 3.

This is what I've come up with so far, but I would love to hear any suggestions on what I can improve from you guys! (please don't go over budget)

CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K

CPU cooler: H100i

Extras:

  • 2x Bitfenix Alchemy LED strip- white
  • 2x Corsair SP120 fans

OS:

Windows 8.1

Peripherals:

Mouse: Deathadder (already own)

You live in Sweden rigth? I think you will have to pay a ton of taxes if you get it from NCIX.

So you don't prefer red or just don't like the dragon? Asus their RoG boards are red and really good for gaming. But there are other options out there. If you don't like red, what color would you prefer?

You are correct with the fact that faster memory will perform better. But the minimal fps won't increase that much. I would say if you really will play BF4 alot. 1866 or 2133 will be fine. But even 1600 is going to do well.

I was wondering about that. Do you know how I would find out how much I will have to pay?

Way to much. From 500$ and more I think you pay like insane amounts. A better option is to maybe look for Germany, they ship to Sweden and have pretty good prices. But after shipping costs, im not sure if it will actually be cheaper. In general it's just best to buy in your own country.

Wow, i'm really sad right now. Thought I was getting a good deal because the shipping wasn't that expensive, oh well. Guess I'll have to buy from Sweden instead(which is much more expensive  ).

I can have a look for the German prices, but I need to login at amazon at least to see the prices for shipping to Sweden. But the German prices are pretty good. But not that much cheaper then Sweden, but maybe you can get some parts from there.

For boards, how do you like the looks off these?

If you get faster memory you won't be able to oc your cpu as much anyway. Oc'ing one will make oc'ing the other unstable and oc'ing your cpu gives a more tangible benefit most of the time anyway.

Where will you be shopping then?

SP120's are pretty loud--I'd recommend getting some quieter fans.

Caviar blacks also aren't worth the money. They can be a bit loud and there are cheaper alternatives like the Blue and barracuda. Caviar greens are a bit slower so I would recommend not to load games from them if you don't have to.

The 290x isn't meant for 1080p so you better be going with triple 1080p or a 1440p display. If you're sticking with 1080p, you might as well just get a 280x/7970 because one will already max almost everything out.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

Ok i'll use 1600 memory if that is the case.

Since people say the taxes are really high I'll be be buying my parts from from here or from here.

Yeah I know I was going to get Noiseblocker eloops but NCIX didn't carry them so I went with SP120s. But since I won't be ordering my parts from NCIX, I can get some quieter ones.

Maybe I'll buy two WD blue drives and put them in RAID 1 so I can load games and use them for general storage.

That is the plan, since I don't have the money for a 290X or three monitors I will just buy a 280X or if I find a cheaper 7970GHz.

If you're concerned about what BF4 is going to utilise better, you'll be better off getting an AMD 8 core as BF4 will utilise all cores thus getting better performance with it. The 8350 also performs about 5 - 10% slower in games that don't utilise all cores, so you won't really be missing out if you get one.

Sound. Overall those 2 boards are pretty compareable. It's just that I would suggest the Gigabyte UD3H and a soundcard while with the Hero, you will be fine. If you don't care alot about sound, then feel free to go with the Gigabyte.

I would go with UD3H but it doesn't fit the color scheme. I've been thinking of getting an external DAC instead of an internal sound card, when I have the money.

Allright, that's a fair option. Just remember that an DAC won't improve the microphone quality. But i'm not aware how good it is nowadays with the onboard quality. Just when I bought my soundcard, my quality went up a whole bunch hah. Might be because the onboard was just horrible, but well. Just giving you the information.

Edit: from those 2 sites that you gave us, the cheapest UD4H is 1550 kr and the Hero 1717 kr. So not sure how much you are willing to spend on a dac, but for 167 kr I doub't you will get anything that can compare to the SupremeFX sound on the hero. But ofcourse, if you want to save money now, then sure grab the UD4H. I am just slightly a fan boy off Asus RoG boards.

Fair choice, uhm. To say something funky tho. I don't know how this price drop will work for aftermarket coolers. But tomorrow the 780 will drop to 499$. So fuck me I wish I had money.

Ofcourse the price from retailers will be higher since they want more margin, but still.

TREAD CAREFULLY, this could really screw you over, in Norway you will pay about 25% taxes + random fees for taking your money (gebyr) you don't have to pay toll for electronics but you still pay taxes random fees and whatnot, check out how it works in sweden, DO NOT order anything before doing your research, you are probably better off buying it within your country unless you can find somwhere that sells it for half the price...

He is very likely going to buy in Sweden. Aswell something that I think still is the case, as long as the total price off the thing is under 500$ (i only know this about the US, but I assume it works for europe somewhat the same) You don't have to pay insane taxes. I got my Astro A40 from the US and they were like 250$, I had to pay a tax to the shipping guys for like 10€ or something. But overall nothing to crazy.

But overall nothing to crazy.

nope .. here it's more like 170$ where it get's crazy, and you still have some fees and other things to pay if it's over 35$, he really would have to find it at half price to make it even worth thinking about importing, especially for a pc with massive shipping fees as you pay taxes and whatnot for those aswell.

at the 35$ mark you end up paying more for import fees taxes and whatnot than the actual item, making it twice as expensive or more.
