gtx 1070 topping at 1506 mhz on League

BlondeEskimo

so I don't know exactly when this started but for some reason my gtx 1070 never goes over 1506 MHz well playing League of legends, I have a modest overclock +173 core clock (MHz) with a memory clock of +600.  when I do the valley benchmark my graphics card seems to be running normally along as well as when I play tomb raider, but in LOL I only go up too 1506 MHz which for a game like LOL shouldn't really be a problem but I'm planning on getting a 1440p 144hz monitor and when I get that I want to play at my max frame rate, i used to get an avg of about 290 fps and now I am occasionally dropping into the 130 range,  (a friend who has a very similer setup has not had this problem.)

Can u use Msi after burner to monitor the gpu usage , core and memory clocks while playing and post a screen shot ? make sure u are in a team fight ?

while overclocked , turn off Vsync and fps cap

also turn on high performance from control panel

btw my fps also drops in lol sometimes , usually during spectating but nth out of the ordinary during normal matches . optimization issues i guess ?

but when u upgrade the monitor , the demand will increase yes but u will still get max fps since this gpu is already an over kill for this game

whats ur cpu tho ?

I'm running a i5 6600k overclocked to 4.5 ghz.

and as I said my friend has nearly the same set up and he is still getting upwards of 280 fps which I used to get as well.

The card will only clock up to the maximum if there is load on it that requires the performance, all the while the 1070 will be managing things to save power. LOL is very light when it comes to GPU requirements so I suspect that it is not putting enough load on the card for it to ramp up.

the thing is though as I said before my friend has a very similar setup and his card isn't underclocking at all and just forcing max frame rates just like mine used to do, at the moment none of this really matters since my monitor can only run at 60hz 1080p but I plan on upgrading to a 144hz 1440p in the near future and if my card does keep underperforming like it is now then I wont be getting the frame rates I could be.

I just did a benchmark with the new tomb raider and it also looks to be under preforming.

also in this benchmark the card was going up to 2025MHz.

I have a i5-6600k overclocked to 4.5GHz so that shouldn't be a factor here.

-snip-

I think.. i think you need to increase the maximum limit of the Core clock graph in the setting.

Also, update Afterburner to 4.3 Final.

afterburner is 4.3 but I just like this skin over the new one and I don't believe the size of the graph would make a difference since ive always had it at this size.

My bad then, did you try reinstalling the driver? Don't forget to reboot your PC.

Have you set the GPU in Nvidia control panel too maximum performance

This.
Keep in mind that high performance makes your card run hotter and louder.

so after doing everything I could find that could help its still just staying at 1506mhz on ALL games but still does what it should on my valley benchmark.

also I set power to high performance.

Very strange. Try DDU via safe mode install either the latest or stable drivers. I personally use 373.06. I think the latest stable would be the 375.95 but I don't remember. Later ones are hit or miss. Also put high performance and options that everyone suggested before. Also, try to install without geforce experience to see if you get in someway by shadowplay. (Choose perform clean install via custom install instead of express installation)

I forgot, I would also try update vbios just to make sure everything is up to date.

PS:I also am very triggered because you take a picture instead of snipping and image from your pc.

2017-01-14 (3).pngso I completely uninstalled all nvidia drivers again and this time I did a clean install and that did it my gpu is now running nearly the right clock speed (around 1970-2000 when it should be at 2025) but after trying some tomb raider I'm still getting the same 30-38fps at 1080p which for a gtx 1070 is way lower than it should be so I'm really getting close to just doing a full reset on my entire computer because that would probably do it.
