So, I'm looking for a suitable pair of headphones for me to buy. This is what I'm looking for:

  • Over ear (I like the feel (but not the sound) of steelseries siberia v2)
  • Good noise cancellation (preferably passive)
  • No or minimum leakage
  • Short or interchangeable cable. (no 5m "DJ cable")
  • Punchy bass (important) but also well represented mids and highs
  • LOUD, close to tinnitus guarantee levels
  • Music style: techno/trance
  • Source will be a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (with spotify and FLAC tracks on the built in music player) or a PC with Asus Maximus built in audio
  • Looks of the headphones is not important
  • Budget: 250-300$
  • AND MOST IMPORTANT: BUILD QUALITY(heavy headphones in no problem)

So questions:

  • What headphones do you recommend for me?
  • Should I buy a new sound card for my PC?
  • Should I buy a DAC/portable DAC?

XB1k is a waste of money, XB500 was the only one that held to its price point to any degree.

M100's are miles better.

I'd hear a lot of reliable sources recommending the XB1k but haven't hear either myself, what is it that the V-Moda does better, I've never seen a direct comparison.

I guess the Sony's are a bit plasticy. Innerfidelity did absolutely rave about the M100 but I guess if you don't see a direct comparison between the two then it's tough to make the comparison. V-Moda is the better way to go i guess then.

I have the XB-500s that I got for around $40 at radioshack, believe me, they are some tough cookies to crack and my personal favorite headphones.

Sadly the 700's and 1k aren't as good of a value, and its the sound that is the issue. And it isn't that the build is bad, but its nothing special.

Have an XB700 and Crossfade LP I'm comparing right now - the xtra bass in the XB700 is a joke. All V-Modas have detachable cables which OP is asking for anyways.

If it doesn't get loud enough on your phone OP, then look into portable amps.

Thanks for all the recommendations guys but I have made a huge misstake. I ment over ear, not on ear. Any suggestions for that?

That's what I thought you meant, and I think most of others' recommendations are over ear as well.

ATH-A900x

The A900x cover...one of his preferences.

Best of luck, if you have farther questions, ShearMe, Mayflower, h264, and myself are always here to help.

Not always, but usually.  ;)
