Hey!

I'm building a gaming pc soon (Cities skylines and Space engineers) and I already have a build ready.

But thats not important, my question is how come a 8-core 4 GHz CPU from AMD cost $140 (FX-8350 black edition) Yet a 4-core 3.2 GHz CPU from Intel cost $205 (i5-6500)

Why is this? I know it probably isn't, but is the AMD CPU better?

Ion (Main Build)                                                                                        Overall Setup

i5 6500 3.2 GHz                                                                     -Blue snowball (White) thanks goodwill

No way in heck is the AMD cpu better (excuse my french). AMD's architecture is ancient, Intel's CPUs are just more powerful and the architecture is always new.

Just because a CPU has a higher Ghz than another doesn't mean it's faster. Plus the AMD architecture is ancient. Also, the Intel performs much better at single core performance.

CPU - FX 8350 @ 4.5GHZ GPU - Radeon 5700  Mobo - M5A99FX Pro R2.0 RAM - Crucial Ballistix 16GB @ 1600 PSU - Corsair CX600M CPU Cooler - Hyper 212 EVO Storage - Samsung EVO 250GB, WD Blue 1TB

The AMD one its older, that makes its transistors bigger (32nm), and the Intel one its a newer and it has better transistors (14nm).

If you are going to play City Skylines i would recommend an Intel quad core (i5) coz of its better single core performance.

City Skylines doesn't use more then 3 cores for some reason, you will waste 5 cores while playing it with the AMD CPU.

AMD has a slower archicecture and less IPC(instructions per clock) resulting in lower compute power even at higher clock speeds

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

intel has hyperthreading

smaller transistors and most activities do not benefit form 8+ cores (producing content does)

that I5 has no hyperthreading, they were beating AMD on the same size node too, its all about architecture and IPC

Ok I'll stick with the 6500
